The Detroit Tigers scored six runs off Yankee ace starter C.C. Sabathia en route to an 8–1 win over New York in Game 4 of the ALCS to sweep the Yankees and advance to the World Series.

Triple crown winner Miguel Cabrera broke the game open with a two-run home run in the fourth. Three batters later Johnny Peralta followed suit with a two-run shot of his own to extend the lead to six runs, which was more than enough for starter Max Scherzer who struck out 10 in five and two-thirds innings.

For Detroit this marks the second straight postseason they’ve sent the Yankees packing and the second time in manager Jim Leyland’s tenure that they’ve won the American League.

For the Yankees the sweep is the first in a seven-game format in the postseason since 1976 when Cincinnati dropped Billy Martin’s bunch in four games.
