Department of Transportation Secretary Ray La Hood announced Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) Grants on Feb. 17. Portland, Oregon will get $23 million for streetcars.

Existing streetcar service along Moody Avenue will be improved in Portland. Services for bicyclists and pedestrians are part of the streetcar enhancement plan.

The grant is part of $1.5 billion for innovative transportation projects included in the Recovery Act. States submitted 1,400 applications for the grants and 51 projects in 41 states were funded.
