The tragic death of a 3-year-old boy has sent reverberations around the world after his pregnant mother paid tribute to him in a heartfelt post on social media.

Alby Fox Davis from Tasmania, Australia, was looking forward to his upcoming fourth birthday celebrations on Monday, Feb. 26. He was playing with a bouncy ball which had arrived earlier that morning for his party.

The unimaginable happened when the 3-year-old started choking — the ball had become stuck in his windpipe, preventing him from breathing.

Despite his pregnant mother’s frantic attempts to save him, he passed away within seconds in her arms.

On Tuesday, Alby’s mother Anna paid tribute to her “darling baby boy” in a heartbreaking post on Instagram the.small.folk to her 84,700 followers.

“No words could ever express the depths of our gratitude for the outpouring of love we have received since our worst nightmare became our daily reality. During this time of immense grief, your thoughts, prayers, sympathy and tears have enveloped and uplifted us, and we could never thank you enough for your overwhelming generosity and support,” she wrote.

A GoFundMe page set up to support the family has fundraised over $195,000 exceeding its $100,000 goal, as of March 2.

According to the crowdsourcing page, Anna is self-employed with her business, The Small Folk, while Alby’s father Simon is a relief teacher who is not entitled to any leave.

Anna and Simon are expecting their fourth child, reported The Mercury. Alby was the second child in the family.
