Nexus 6’s price was a deal breaker!
Many argue that the screen size of the New Nexus 6 was a deal breaker for them; but for me, the price matters the most. $650 for a nexus device, are you serious?
The Start and End of my Nexus Journey
I have been a hardcore Nexus fan and user since the nexus 4 came out. There were two main reason why I always appreciated the Nexus Series. First, these phones have stock android with great specs; second, the prices were low that made them affordable for everyone (especially students) to buy an off-contract phone.
So, when the Nexus 4 came out, it was a great phone for $299. I bought it and used it for a good 1 year. It was still perfect after a year, but being a Nexus enthusiast I had to buy the Nexus 5. So, I gave my perfect Nexus 4 to my Dad and bought the Nexus 5. And, I started loving the Nexus 5 for the price I paid.
Rumors about the Nexus 6 came and I got excited to hear that Google would soon be announcing a new Nexus flagship device. Finally, on October 15th 2014, the all new Nexus 6 was finally announced!
At first I was shocked to see a 5.95 inch screen on the device; but to be honest, I didn’t really care about that huge screen because I think Motorola did their best to make it as compact as possible with a six-inch screen size.
The Specs are just awesome! With a Snapdragon 805 2.7 Ghz Quad Core processor, 3GB of RAM and Android 5.0 Lolipop, Nexus 6 was about to become my next daily driver. Until, I found out that they are pricing it for $650. (WTH?) Dollar 650 for a Nexus device; never expected that because I though Nexus devices were meant to be cheap for developers.
And, that’s when the Nexus 6 broke my heart (My world just shattered! LOL). And, probably this is why it was the end of my Nexus Journey. I would never pay more than $400 for a phone.
No Doubt, Nexus 6 is a great phone
Don’t get me wrong! If you compare Nexus 6 with any other phone out there in the market today, you'll notice that it’s a lot cheaper. It is arguably the best flagship phone for that price, right now. But, being a Nexus device I thought it wouldn’t cost more than $400.
A lot of people say that the 5.95 inch screen size is a deal breaker, but for me the price is the deal breaker. Again, it’s not overpriced if you compare it with our phones, but it’s definitely overpriced to be considered as a Nexus Phone. In short, Google just took away the ‘Nexus’ charm and now they should just stop calling it a Nexus.
One Plus One will be my new Nexus
I believe One Plus One is the Nexus of this year. I was lucky enough to get an invite for it. And, guess what? While I was writing this article, the door bell rang and a mysterious parcel came. Yeah, it was the One Plus One. For me this is my new Nexus device for 2014. So, hang on because a comparison article between the Nexus 6 and One Plus One is soon coming!
