Thieves drilled a tunnel through the roof of a bank branch in Brooklyn, stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars, police said.
Employees at HSBC branch in Borough Park returned to work the morning of April 11 to find a hole in the ceiling that lead directly into the vault, according to authorities.
Police calculated that $280,000 had been stolen from the bank, at 13th Avenue between 44th and 45th Streets—according to a preliminary report. The numbers are subject to change, officials said.
Officials are not too sure when the break-in occurred, but they are hinting that it was over the weekend.
The bank is closed from Friday evening to Monday morning.
Police also noticed a ladder on the roof, reported PIX 11.
According to the New York Times, no information has yet been found regarding how many people were involved in the burglary, as well as the time of the event—nor why there was no camera footage of them.
The money is insured, and customers’ deposits will not be affected, reported The Times.
No arrests have been made as police are still investigating the crime scene.
