A number of protesters chanted outside the Seminole circuit courthouse in Sanford, Fla., on Saturday night after a jury acquitted George Zimmerman, who was accused of shooting and killing 17-year-old Trayvon Martin. Many of the demonstrators called for a nationwide protest against the verdict.

“He gonna have to get protection. He knows this ... He should confess what he did wrong,” one protester told the local Florida Today channel via its live stream, speaking in front of the Seminole court.

The protesters, who also appeared to be nonviolent, chanted:  “The system has failed” and “the whole system is guilty.”

“George Zimmerman is going free ... and Trayvon Martin is six feet under,” was also chanted.

A number of other people said that justice was not meted out.

“This is an example ... of how the system is failed and how it continues to fail,” one woman told the station.

Florida Today also reported there was a candlelight vigil in memorial of Martin.

Following the verdict, throngs of officers were deployed in an attempt to preserve order.

Zimmerman was found not guilty of manslaughter and second degree murder.
