The Real Canada Goose

We interview Canada Goose President and CEO Dani Reiss. The brand’s extreme weather clothing is made in Canada using many Canadian materials. The company has an increasing number of fans around the world, but also a troubling number of imitators.

Mr. Reiss: All kinds of stuff, from the lowest-quality feather mulch to other byproducts and waste products like sawdust and newspaper. We’ve opened jackets up and tested them.

Epoch Times: Are we talking goose fecal matter?

Mr. Reiss: Yes. ... Who knows what bacteria could be in there. What’s inside fake jackets is not regulated, it’s not expensive, it has no value. It is scary stuff, and also, it won’t keep you warm

You could buy a jacket for a very low price and it won’t keep you warm. It might even make you sick. Who knows who made it or under what conditions?”

Epoch Times: You are taking some anti-counterfeit measures. Can you tell us how to spot a fake?

Mr. Reiss: Our No. 1 priority is to educate consumers and tell them about the problem. A lot of consumers who want to buy a real Canada Goose jacket are fooled into buying a counterfeit jacket and being disappointed.

Online there are tons of fake websites and we’re working with third-party companies to take them down all the time. Everything from eBay and Kijiji to fake websites that mimic our website is an ongoing challenge.
