Steve Martin Wins Music Award

Comedic actor Steve Martin, 66, who is an accomplished banjo player, earned a top honor last week at the International Bluegrass Music Awards in Nashville, Tenn. Martin and the band “Steep Canyon Rangers,” with whom he tours, won the Entertainer of the Year award.

In March, the band released its first collaborative record with Martin titled Rare Bird Alert, which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Bluegrass Chart and at No. 43 on the Billboard Top 200.

“It’s hard to believe, but together with Steve Martin, we did it … IBMA Entertainer of the Year,” said the band on their official website. “We can’t say enough thanks to all our supporters over the years; we will do you proud.”

Sting Celebrates for Charity

Music legend Sting celebrated the 25th anniversary of his solo career as well as his 60th birthday this past weekend, honoring these milestones in New York City with a charity concert at the Beacon Theater featuring a long list of headliners.

Among the performers were Bruce Springsteen, Lady Gaga, Billy Joel, and Chris Botti. Proceeds from the event have been given to the Robin Hood Foundation, whose mission is to support programs to help end poverty in New York City.

‘West Side Story’ Special 50th Celebration

The beloved movie musical West Side Story will honor its 50th anniversary in the U.K. with a series of special screenings at London’s Royal Albert Hall June 22–24, 2012. The newly remastered high-definition film screenings will feature live accompaniment by the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra.

In a statement, Paul Epstein, executive vice-president of The Leonard Bernstein Office, said: “The brilliance and crispness of the brand new Blu-Ray print, together with the visceral excitement brought by a full orchestra of over 85 musicians, right there in the Hall with you, will make this experience of West Side Story one that you will never forget.”

Jack Osbourne Engaged

Jack Osbourne, 25, son of rocker Ozzie and television personality Sharon, is heading to the altar. The reality TV star asked his girlfriend, budding actress Lisa Stelly, for her hand after dating for four months.

On Saturday, Oct. 1, the actress tweeted, “The most amazing man I’ve ever met asked me to marry him ... and he wasn’t joking! Crazy, right? :)”
