The MusiCares 2012 gala celebrating Person of the Year honoree Paul McCartney, for his exceptional artistic achievements and philanthropic work, will take place in Los Angeles on Feb. 10, two days before the Grammy Awards.

The sold-out event will include a cocktail reception, silent auction, and performances from numerous artists, including 2012 Grammy nominees Tony Bennett, Coldplay, Alison Krauss, as well as the cast of Cirque du Soleil’s “Love” Beatles tribute show.

A special performance from McCartney himself is also planned. Money raised from the dinner and concert will provide support for MusiCares, whose mission is to ensure that music people have a place to turn to in times of financial, medical, and personal need. Past honorees include Bono, Luciano Pavarotti, Barbara Streisand, and Sting.

Legendary music producer and Epic Records chairman L.A. Reid is to remain as a judge for season 2 of the television singing competition The X Factor, according to an article in The Hollywood Reporter.

In contrast, announcements from this past week indicated that most of the season 1 personalities, including judges Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger, as well as host Steve Jones were let go. There is speculation that pop diva Mariah Carey is being considered as a replacement.
