Beyoncé and Jay-Z Welcome Baby Girl

American songstress Beyoncé Knowles, 30, and music mogul husband Jay-Z (born Shawn Carter) welcomed their first child on Saturday. The baby girl, born in New York’s Lenox Hill Hospital, is named Blue Ivy Carter according to reports on E! Online, although the exact spelling of the first name is under question.

As for the inspiration behind the baby’s name, a source told Beyoncé’s hometown paper the Houston Chronicle that “Blu” is for Jay-Z’s hugely successful 2001 album The Blueprint, and Ivy is for the Roman numeral IV for the number 4, which holds significance for the family. The glowing new mother was born on Sept. 4, her own mother on Jan. 4, and her husband Jay-Z on Dec. 4.

Selena Gomez Sings for Charity

Disney superstar Selena Gomez and her band The Scene will perform to a sold-out venue at her 2nd Annual Charity Concert benefitting UNICEF on Friday, Jan. 20, at the House of Blues in West Hollywood, Calif.

Gomez became a UNICEF Ambassador in 2009 and has participated in several events, including trips to Ghana and Chile where she witnessed the harsh conditions of children who lack basic necessities.

“Giving back has always been important to me,” she said in a statement on her website. “This concert allows me to connect with my fans in person which is one of the best parts of my job and to raise money for important causes at the same time. I can’t think of anything I would enjoy doing more.”
