A Texas woman who was seen leaving a 2-year-old boy on the doorstep of a stranger’s house, according to security video footage, has been identified and spoke out about the incident.

The woman in video, Keairra Woods, said that the entire thing was a misunderstanding. “I just feel destroyed,” she was quoted by WSB as saying.

Woods isn’t the child’s mother. The identities of the mother and father have not been released.

In revealing what happened, she said that there is an explanation. The child’s mother is the aunt of her best friend, and she asked her to drop the boy off at his father’s home, but she warned that the stepmother has a restraining order against the mom.

Woods said she has never met the child’s father or the stepmother. She also never visited the home, according to the WSB report.

Woods said that she was using GPS. “I followed the GPS. Mind you, I’m still on the phone with her, so by the time I get to the house, I say, ‘Well I just pulled up to the house.’ She said, ‘Okay, get out the car, get his bag and go to the door,’” Woods said on Oct. 18.

However, Woods said the mom should have known it was the wrong house.

“By the time I get to the door, I ring the doorbell. I still have him in my hand. I say, ‘It’s like five cars out here, a red car, a black car, and a white car, and it’s like two rows of cars.’ She said ‘Okay,’” Woods told news outlet. “That should have let you know I was at the wrong house then because you know your baby daddy don’t drive so many cars.”

She added: “So I ring the doorbell, the lady walks like halfway to the door. That’s when I took off running. And the only reason I took off running was because it was chilly outside and I didn’t have no sweater on, as you can see in the video.”

She also added that she was trying to avoid an interaction with the child’s stepmother due to the legal issues.

“I never ran off and just left him there without even seeing if somebody came to the door. The woman was halfway to the door,” she told WSB. “At the end of the day ... it’s really the mother’s fault.”

Montgomery County Sheriff’s officials said that the child has since been placed in a foster home.

“When Deputies arrived they viewed video surveillance and observed a black female arrive at the residence in a white passenger car. The suspect is observed running toward the front door of the residence while lifting the child in the air by one arm,” said the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office of the video. “Once the suspect arrives at the front door she rings the doorbell, knocks on the door and then flees back to her vehicle.”
