Texas Man Shoots Wife, Self Just 2 Weeks After Moving in New Home

Just days after moving into a new house, a Texas man shot his wife before turning the gun on himself, police said.

Jason Butler, 39, is accused of shooting 26-year-old Rachel Butler. She called the police, saying that her husband shot her in Montgomery County, KHOU reported.

Officials arrived on the scene and found her with a gunshot wound to the chest. Her husband was found dead after shooting himself, they said.

Butler, a mother of two, was rushed to Conroe Regional Hospital. She was listed in critical condition.

“She will be in there at least a week,” Courtney Lee Stiles told the Houston Chronicle. “She is still in a lot of pain.”

She told investigators that the couple started fighting in the car on the way home from his high school reunion.

“They had some type of altercation that was verbal at first but then became physical,” Lt. John Schmitt told the Houston Chronicle. “It continued to the house, and when they got here, there was evidence that there may have been another physical disturbance here.”

The fight got worse and Jason Butler grabbed a gun.

Neighbors told KHOU that the couple moved in just two weeks ago.

According to the Chronicle, Jason was found dead outside, and the Montgomery County Forensics Center will conduct an autopsy.

Their two children, ages 2 and 6, were with his sister when the shooting took place. They didn’t witness the shootings.

Their friends expressed worry and grief.

“We are in shock but leaning on God for peace and understanding,” Stiles wrote on Facebook. “Please keep her and her family in your prayers.”

“Please remember him in this light, the love you can see he had for his family, the love he had for his friends,” wrote one friend on Facebook of Jason, according to the NY Post. “Remember him for the fun loving person we all knew him to be. Things happen, one thing should not take away from who he truly was.”
