Texas Felon Escapes Jail With Help From Mother and Girlfriend

Jay Scott McEvers, 47, escaped from a justice center in Van Zandt County, Texas, according to reports on Thursday.

A statewide alert was issued after McEvers escaped Wednesday night from a jail located between Dallas and Tyler. He was in jail on one charge of possession of a firearm by a felon, FOX4 reported.

He has a criminal history, including an armed bank robbery and various drug charges.

His mother, Carolyn McEvers, as well as his girlfriend, Cynthia Heese, were both arrested for allegedly helping his escape. He is still on the run.

McEvers was last spotted wearing orange jail pants and a white shirt. He might be driving a red Chevy Cobolt.

Officials consider him armed and dangerous.

KENS5-TV reported that he is 5'10” and weighs 195 pounds, and he has blue eyes.
