Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir won the silver medal in pairs ice dancing at the 2014 Olympics--and one of the main questions after the win was: Are Virtue and Moir dating?

They are not.

Few pairs in the figure skating world get involved romantically, and Virtue and Moir are not currently among them.

The pair have been together on the ice for a long time, first competing in 1997, and have also been romantically involved before, though it’s unclear for how long or when.

According to a 2010 Globe and Mail interview, the pair“dated” for a brief period when they first met, when Virtue was 7 and Moir was 9. He ended with a phone call, saying, “Tess, I don’t want to go out with you any more” and hanging up.

Moir currently has a girlfriend who is known by her first name only, Cassandra. Little is known about her and pictures don’t seem to be available of her. Virtue is currently single.

Virtue told W Network during a documentary about her and Moir that she is too busy to date, not in the right spot for a relationship, and couldn’t be the type of girlfriend that a guy would want. Although that might change if she retires. And she did go on several dates on the show, including with fellow Canadian figure skater Patrick Chan.

She described the relationship between her and Moir during the show as something different than a husband and wife, dating, or being siblings–something else altogether.

“It’s hard to explain,” Moir said.

“It is just different,” Moir told the National Post in 2012, referring to the relationship between him and Virtue. “The person [a girlfriend] has to understand.”

Moir said in one of the episodes that he would love to spend more time with Cassandra after skyping with her, but that he loves spending time with Virtue as well.

Apparently Cassandra and Virtue have never met, something Virtue said might be because what she and Moir share is something so special it could be hard for someone on the outside to understand.
