Terrell Owens, who has been stellar this year for the Cincinnati Bengals, was fined by the NFL for violating its Twitter rule, according to ESPN.

Owens, who has 31 receptions for 476 yards and 2 touchdowns on the season, was fined $5,000 for a pre-game tweet before last Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The NFL’s rule states that players and coaches cannot use social media like Facebook and Twitter 90 minutes before each game, during the game, and shortly after the game.

Owens conceded that he broke the rule. “If I get fined for it, then that’s cool,” Owens said, according to the Associated Press.

“A lucky fan wearing my jersey 2day will get a signed football by Me & Ocho Cinco! My asst will pick U out!! Good luck!” Owens tweeted.

Owens said that the tweet was part of his charity work for Kenyan children.

His teammate and fellow wide receiver Chad Ochocinco was fined $25,000 for tweeting before and during a preseason game this year.

The Twitter rule has been in effect in the NFL since last season.
