The Haiti government has charged 10 American Baptists with attempting to traffic 33 Haiti children out of the country.

The group was arrested at the Dominican border on Friday night when failing to present official documentation for the children ranging in age from seven months old to 12 years old.

The group of five men and five women, most of them connected to an Idaho Baptist church, said that they tried to take the children to an orphanage in the Dominican Republic.

“Our team was falsely arrested today,” read a statement on the Web site of the Central Valley Baptist Church. As it is not clear if the children are indeed orphans, their families are now being sought.
