The schoolgirl who was caught in a car crash that destroyed the bus shelter where she was waiting has died.

The crash happened on Wednesday morning as the 15-year-old waited for her bus to school in West Yorkshire, UK, according to the Huddersfield Examiner.

Photographs of the aftermath show the bus stop in Moldgreen had been completely destroyed on Jan. 10.

At approximately 8.15 p.m., a car mounted the pavement on Wakefield Road, according to police.

“A grey BMW 5 Series traveling from Huddersfield collided with a bus stop causing injury to three pedestrians, the driver of the car, and extensive damage to the bus stop,” said a statement by West Yorkshire Police.

The 15-year-old girl was one of two victims who sustained life-threatening injuries, and was airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary.

At around 6 p.m., Police said they were notified the girl had not survived her injuries, according to the Huddersfield Examiner.

The police had not named the girl, who was identified as Katelyn Dawson by the Examiner and by the Daily Mail.

Lisa Boyd, who works at a nearby care home told the Metro, “We heard a loud bang and just thought it was the bin men, then we heard the police and ambulance sirens.”

The scene was described as ‘“absolute carnage” by witnesses and “like something out of a film”, according to the Examiner.

Police are investigating the incident and appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

A Facebook page has been set up in memory of the girl, with tributes flooding in.

“So today this gorgeous young woman was swept away and has become a beautiful angel flying high in the sky, she will be truly missed by many, RIP Katelyn,” said one tribute.

Another friend wrote, “Katelyn was amazing, she was kind, funny, beautiful and so so so loved by everyone. She’s been taken too soon and everyone’s going to miss her more than you can imagine.”
