HOLLAND PATENT, N.Y.—A central New York teenager who admitted killing his father and hiding the body under a tarp in the backyard has been sentenced to 20 years to life in prison.

Austin Parker accepted a plea deal in October and was sentenced Friday in Oneida County Court.

Authorities say the 17-year-old Parker used a rifle to kill his 52-year-old father in late May at their home in the Oneida County village of Holland Patent. The body wasn’t discovered until late June, when troopers went to the home after receiving a report of a suspicious situation at the house.

Authorities say the son’s relationship with his father had been strained since his mother died about four years ago, and they had a series of arguments before the shooting.
