Team USA has invited Atlanta Hawks forward Paul Millsap to the training camp this week in Las Vegas after forwards Kevin Love and Blake Griffin unexpectedly withdrew at the last minute.

The withdrawals left Team USA with a dearth of options at power forward, prompting the invitation of Millsap.

Millsap’s addition will be the only one to USA Basketball, a source told Marc Spears of Yahoo.

Millsap, a 29-year-old 6'8” power forward, averaged 17.9 points and 8.5 rebounds last year. He also dished out 3.1 assists.

The training camp at Las Vegas is set to run from July 28 through August 1.

After the Las Vegas camp, the selected team finalists will have a 12-day break, then train again in Chicago on August 14 and August 15 before playing an exhibition game against Brazil in the United Center on August 16. The team will pick up preparations in New York City on August 17 and play two exhibition games, one against the Dominican Republic on August 20 and the second against Puerto Rico on August 22.

The team will then play Slovenia at Fran Canaria Arena in Spain before the FIBA World Cup starts on Saturday, August 30.

The team will eventually be whittled down to 12 players. Kevin Durant, James Harden, and Anthony Davis are believed to be shoo-ins and Demarcus Cousins should make the final squad but many of the other roster spots are up for grabs.

Only the winner of the World Cup will automatically qualify for the 2016 Olympics. All the other teams have to go through qualifying next summer.
