NASHVILLE, Tenn.—A Tennessee teacher who was serenaded by hundreds of students in a video viewed millions of times on social media since it was posted last week has died.
Nashville’s Christ Presbyterian Academy says in a statement that Ben Ellis died early Friday morning.
The Tennessean newspaper reports more than 400 students and faculty left their classrooms to sing to Ellis last week after students were told Ellis had decided to discontinue cancer treatment.
A video shows Ellis watching the group from a window and singing along. It has been viewed nearly 30 million times since country star Tim McGraw shared it on his Facebook page Saturday.
Ellis, a father of five, told WKRN-TV earlier this week that the moment made him feel like he “was not alone.”
