A high school teacher in New Jersey has been arrested and charged after he allegedly asked two students for naked pictures.

Investigators said Jose Maria, a Spanish teacher at Passaic High School in Woodland Park, told two teenage students he would give them better grades in exchange for the pictures.

He also told them he would buy them Chinese food and alcohol if he could pick them up.

The mother of one of the unnamed students was informed of the request and she confronted Maria and Maria admitted it and said he would kill himself if she went to the police with the information, reported USA Today.

Maria later admitted what he had done in conversations with detectives.

The sexually inappropriate conversations and behavior allegedly occurred between 2010 and 2012, according to the Passaic County prosecutor’s office.

Maria, 39, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and official misconduct.

He was suspended from his teaching position.

The case has been referred to a grand jury.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact Detective Kristin Falotico of the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit at (973) 837-7661.
