The deadline to file taxes in the U.S. is no later than April 15, 2014.

Although the IRS offers Free File to file your taxes on their website free of charge, there are other professional aides who can prepare your Form 1040.

If you’re having trouble meeting the deadline, you might be eligible for an automatic six-month extension to file your taxes, which you can fill out by April 15. The form can be found here.

There are also a variety of alternative payment plans like the paying off taxes in monthly installments, give an offer of compromise, and other options. To read about the payment alternatives, click here

If you file your taxes later than the deadline, the IRS will send you a proposed assessment which will lead to a tax bill. If the bill remains unpaid, the IRS will begin collecting money. For more information click here
