China established diplomatic ties with Honduras on Sunday after the Central American country ended its decades-long relationship with Taiwan, while Taiwan’s foreign minister accused Honduras of demanding exorbitant sums before being lured away by Beijing.
Speaking in Taipei, Taiwan Foreign Minister Joseph Wu said Honduras’s Castro government had requested billions in additional aid from Taiwan, including doubling its initial appeal for $45 million for construction of a hospital to $90 million, and another $50 million to go toward the construction of a $300 million hydroelectric dam.
