A 19-year-old Swedish woman was attacked with a bottle after she rejected a man who groped her at a nightclub.
Sophie Johansson was on the dance floor at Babel in Malmo, Sweden, on Jan. 27, when an unknown man pulled on her bag, she told Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet. After she turned away, she says felt his hands on her bottom and between her legs. She then hit him in an attempt to ward him off, but he responded with a punch to her face.
Johansson and her friend then decided to leave, hoping to avoid further trouble, but as they moved towards the exit she says the man smashed a glass bottle over her head.
Johansson says she did not register the injury until she realized she was bleeding.
“I thought it was [liquid] from the bottle, but then my friend said it was running blood.
“I ended up in shock,” she said.

Johansson was later brought to a hospital where she received several stitches.
Police have not yet identified the man, whom Sophie described as around 25 years-old, 5 feet 7 inches tall, and muscular. Authorities could not initiate an investigation because the man was unknown, but police are interested in hearing from anyone who witnessed the incident.
“I am happy and grateful that it did not end worse. But I’m a little upset about not finding the man,” Johansson told the paper.
She added in the future she would go to a guard instead of trying to handle the situation herself.
The club, in a statement posted to Facebook, said it had cooperated with police and turned over all available material from that night. It urged patrons with information to contact authorities.
