A Swedish insurance company has found that unguarded use of blogs and social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter can be an invitation for regret.
Trygg-Hansa carried out a survey that showed that almost 60 percent of young people between 18 and 22 have put down their vacation plans or purchases of expensive items on Facebook or similar sites, alongside contact information. This is almost a virtual invitation to burglars, they write.
“Increased openness online can be a real goldmine for burglars. We encourage everyone to be careful regarding what kind of information they make public online. In this way they may save themselves the economic and emotional upheaval of a burglary,” says Håkan Franzén, product specialist in home insurance in a press statement from Trygg-Hansa.
