Suspicious sausages: A package that was deemed suspicious by authorities in Southern California turned out to be full of sausages.

The Lemon Grove Patch reported that San Diego County Sheriff’s Department was called was called on Wednesday morning after a suspicious package was found.

When authorities arrived on the scene, they found an unopened box placed next to the door of a  U.S. Navy recruiter’s office, reported U-T San Diego.

There was a note attached on the box, which prompted concern. The building was evacuated and traffic was diverted.

The letter was addressed “to the military,” reported 10 News. However, Detective John Rutledge would not elaborate on what the rest of the note said, adding that it was a “hoax device.”

“[It was] real enough that we sent a man down in a bomb suit to deal with it,” said Rutledge.

A bomb technician clad in a protective suit opened the box and found sausages.

“It was a false alarm,” police spokeswoman Melissa Aquino told Patch. “But it is better to be safe than sorry.”

“It’s really scary, actually. I don’t know what’s going on,” said Michael Attisha, the manager of a nearby restaurant, according to 10 News.
