The New York Police Department is on alert after a top official was threatened with death over a police radio, according to WABC.

A man called dispatch on July 30 asking to speak with a captain of the Midtown South Precinct when he threatened to execute the captain, after asking if the official recalled placing him in jail.

According to CBS New York, the man stated: “‘South Duty captain to Central. Remember you put me in jail? I’m out now and I am going to put a bullet in your head.’”

He also allegedly told police, “‘Captain, captain, oh captain, oh captain, oh captain, oh captain, I’m gonna put a bullet in your mother too, son.’”

The man called for the unidentified captain, claiming he was standing next to an NYPD strategic response vehicle in Times Square. He challenged a sergeant to find him, including inside of a Walgreens. Searches for the suspect were fruitless, officials told WABC.

“Remember captain, I’m coming for you,” the suspect allegedly said. “Come find me. I’m right here in the Walgreens in Times Square.”

There have been questions about the incident, including how the suspect came to posses a police radio, which is possibly lost or stolen. Due to uncertainty surrounding the threats, police officers on patrol have been warned to remain vigilant and to use caution when answering calls coming through the radio.

According to WABC, investigators were reviewing the messages as of late Sunday. Officers clad in heavy tactical gear were seen standing near the Midtown South Precinct on Sunday.
