Police have apprehended a suspect in the killing of a woman in Madison, Wisconsin.

The 25-year-old woman was killed on the night of Tuesday Feb. 2 in the parking lot of the Metro market on Cottage Grove Road.

Police got a tip from a citizen who had seen the suspect’s picture in news reports that a man matching suspect Christopher O'Kroley’s description was in the Zeier Road area, and tracked him down near East Towne Mall.

After O‘Kroley and a police officer exchanged fire, O’Kroley was taken into custody, reported WISC-TV. At least two shots were fired, but no one was injured.

The bullets went through a Home Depot window.

The victim of the killing had worked at Metro Market for about three years, while Madison Police Chief Mike Koval confirmed that O'Kroley was also a former employee.

Police are looking into the homicide further to try to figure out whether O'Kroley may have had help from someone else, NBC15 noted.

Roundy’s, the Metro Market parent company, issued a statement after the death.

“The entire Roundy’s and Metro Market families remain saddened by the loss of our colleague. She was a part of the Roundy’s and Metro Market families for about three years. We are not releasing her name at this time at the request of the Madison Police Department, as their investigation continues. We will have grief counselors available to all employees today and in the coming days.”
