A Tesla owner shared a video of his Tesla Model S being stolen from outside his home and the way the thieves were able to gain access to the vehicle highlights a security flaw, he said.
The Tesla was stolen from outside the home of owner Anthony Kennedy, in Epping, Essex, in the United Kingdom, on Oct. 21.
The pair spends several minutes gaining access to the vehicle and removing the charging device before taking off.
The pair appears to use a tablet to pick up a signal from the Tesla fob inside the house to gain access to the car.
Kennedy told Storyful that the vehicle has not been recovered as of Oct. 24.
On Twitter, he said that the way the thieves stole his Tesla highlights a security flaw, but admitted that he hadn’t enabled PIN access.
“My @tesla was stolen this morning, with just a tablet and a phone extending my fob range from the back of the house. I get that I should [have] enabled PIN access. I wish it was harder for them to disable remote access though. I can’t track it or disable it,” he wrote.
Tesla has not answered Kennedy’s requests for help and neither has the Essex Police Department, Kennedy added on the social media website.
“I imagine my Tesla is in a shipping container to Europe by now,” he said.
“I gave them enough details to get to the thieves. Then just told—wait until we assign someone to your case. Too late now. The car will be dismantled and have left the country.”
