Super Smash Bros. 4 (also known as Super Smash Bros. U) will come with some big changes.

The planned changes are slowly being revealed by director Masahire Sakurai.

The Super Smash Bros. games have been unique in that players are often able to just make it back from impending death by grabbing on to an edge, and can often gain the upper hand if they execute a roll move properly.

In the upcoming new version of Super Smash though, that’s going to change some.

Sakurai told fans on Miiverse that “there are many changes being made to attack and defense options for grabbing edges.”

“In this picture[the one above], Link is actually trumping Mario’s grab,” he said.

Sakurai elaborated on the changes, saying that air time and accumulated damage will determine your period of invincibility while hanging on an edge--and that “grab controls will no longer be affected by whether you have above or below 100% damage.”

This could be the most major gameplay change that Nintendo has revealed about the game.

Over the past months, new information has been coming out about the game, including new characters. There are, so far, 21 characters listed for the game, including brand new ones such as the Wii Fit trainer, Mega Man, and Rosalina.

A definitive release date hasn’t been announced, but it is supposed to come out sometime this year.

The game is considered important for Wii U--much like Mario Kart 8--because the console is not a big hit and has struggled with the competition of Xbox One and Playstation 4.
