
After the incident occurred at approximately 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 28, the victims were taken to hospital. Staff members at the resort evacuated the uninjured holiday skiers from the lift, according to the most recent press release by the resort.
None of the injuries were life-threatening.
“We want make you aware that there has been a derailment of the Spillway East chairlift and our ski patrol is on scene,” stated Sugarloaf Mountain via Twitter.
Jay Marshall, a passenger on a lift next to the derailed one, told the Associated Press that he felt afraid for the passengers while he witnessed the accident. “I looked to my left and could see the cable bouncing up and down. I could see that the cable had come off the [track wheels]," he said.
