With a long list of fancy-sounding natural ingredients, the Microaquatic eyeshadow and mascara claim to enhance skin and lash health. It’s doubtful that a cosmetic can truly do the job of a health product, but if it improves the skin, all the more power to it. However, I believe that makeup is makeup and should primarily be judged on its beautifying properties.

Hydrating Marine Minerals Destination Eye Palette
The square palette contains four monochromatic shades that gradate in a landscape pattern; almost as if you are looking into a forest in the distance.

No matter what you use to apply the color, it will be a natural finish—more of an eye “tint” than an eye “shadow.” While the highlight color in each palette carries more shimmer than the other shades, they are generally sheer and matte. Available in four shades: Blue Waters, Green Isles, Kilimanjaro (purples), and Serengti (browns)

The powders smell and taste salty, which to me proves that they are packed with the promised marine ingredients.

The company’s full list of skin benefits is eye-brow raising: Marula oil, hyaluronic acid, and marine fortified shea butter all hydrate; ceramide-2 increases internal collagen production; and vitamins, minerals and proteins practically make the shadows a meal for your lids—provided you apply them directly on the skin. Sea salt concentrate acts as a natural preservative.

Luxury Lash Intensifier in Black Widow
If you like DiorShow’s soft, dense bristles but think that brush shape (and humongous size) leaves something to be desired, give this one a whirl. It lengthens and volumizes while giving a nice lift without a curler. Also, the conical brush helps reach lashes in the inner corners.

“Specially formulated with beeswax to keep lashes moist and malleable all day long while hydrolyzed keratin protein, film formers and clay derivatives make lashes appear longer, fuller and shiny. Offers a nano dispersion of vitamins, pro-vitamins and soothing Orchid Extract for the ultimate in hydration.”

Translation: The effect is a soft, full fringe that keeps curl well while not being stiff. Comes in black, brown, and purple.

Palette is $37.50; mascara is $22. Sold at Barneys, Bloomingdales, Ulta and Sue Devitt’s website.
