The New York Knicks may get forward Amar'e Stoudemire back before the end of the season after a second doctor said he won’t need surgery on the bulging disc in his back, according to a release on the NBA’s website.
Stoudemire recently returned from Miami where he was looked at by a second doctor. Both doctors agreed on nonsurgical treatment and rehabilitation including an epidural for pain relief.
The two-to-four-week time period would allow the Knicks power forward to get back to the team before the end of the regular season, which is April 26.
The same injury kept Stoudemire off the court during the offseason and may have caused his struggle this year. Through 43 games he is averaging 17.6 points—worst in any season where he played more than three games since his rookie season—and 8.0 rebounds per contest thus far.
