Stop & Shop issued a voluntary recall of some of its frozen broccoli on Monday after a state regulator found a bacteria that can cause serious infection in people with compromised immune systems.

The grocery chain announced the recall after Connecticut’s Department of Consumer Protection found listeria in broccoli at the South Windsor Stop & Shop at 1739 Ellington Road.

Listeriosis is a serious infection caused by the bacteria Listeria monocytogenes that can cause serious illness when consumed by women, newborns, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The bacteria is particularly harmful to fetuses and newborns.
The recall is for 16-oz bags of SB Cut Broccoli with UPC 068826700926 and best by date of March 15, 2020.
Stop & Shop said customers can return the product for a full refund.
Those who wish to file a complaint with the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection’s Foods and Standards Division may email [email protected].
