Steven Tyler, the frontman and singer for the band Aerosmith, has reportedly inked a deal to become the latest judge on the television show “American Idol.”

The 62-year-old singer would fill one of the three open judges’ seats vacated by Ellen DeGeneres, Simon Cowell, and Kara DioGuardi, who was reportedly fired. The fourth judge, Randy Jackson, will remain on the panel.

Aerosmith bassist Tom Hamilton told the New Jersey Star-Ledger that Tyler had signed the deal.

“Steven is doing ‘American Idol,’” Hamilton told the paper. “The ink is dry on that.”

However, Fox has not announced that Tyler will be joining the show.

Hamilton says that Tyler can be the right man for the job.

“Steven is someone who absolutely lives to be in front of an audience, and the people closest to him know how witty and entertaining he can be,” Hamilton told the Star-Ledger. “I don’t know if ‘American Idol’ will be rock ‘n’ roll enough for him, but it is an opportunity for millions of people to see another side of Steven Tyler.”

At the moment, Tyler and his band mates are on a North American tour slated to end in Vancouver on Sept. 16.
