A lawyer for Steven Avery, the subject of Netflix’s “Making a Murderer,” said that she has an “airtight alibi” for him.

Kathleen Zellner, who is a well-known wrongful conviction attorney, has been looking into the best ways to appeal Avery’s conviction in the murder of Teresa Halbach. She has sent out tweets to comment and notes on how she is doing.

Cellphone tower records show that Halbach, who was last seen alive at Avery’s property, did leave the premises while Avery stayed there.

Cellphone tower records show that Halbach, who was last seen alive at Avery’s property, did leave the premises while Avery stayed there, she claimed. What she is saying is that her client’s cell phone records and those of Halbach prove they weren’t near each other when she was killed.

“Cellphone tower records of SA & TH provide airtight alibi for him. She left property he didn’t,” she wrote.

If true, the new information could damage the prosecution’s theory that Halbach was killed on Avery’s property while she was taking photos of the many vehicles he owned.

“Easy part: planting evidence. Hard part: avoiding scientific detection 10+ yrs later,” she wrote and added: “How long will the witnesses who lied at trial be protected by those who know the truth.”

According to the New York Daily News, the evidence “planting” is in reference to Halbach’s car keys, which were found on Avery’s home with his DNA on them. They were found after multiple searches of his property.

With the popularity of the Netflix series, Internet sleuths have been attempting to figure out what happened to Halbach.
