Suffolk County executive Steve Levy announced over the weekend that he will not continue his run for the governor’s office, reported the Wall Street Journal.

Levy surprised many when he switched from being a Democrat to a Republican earlier in the year. He was ultimately not accepted by the Republicans during their nominating convention in June.

Levy said that he would not run as an independent. He gave his endorsement to former Republican opponent Rick Lazio, a former congressman from Long Island who is expected to go up against Buffalo millionaire Carl Paladino in the Republican primary.

Levy, whom many decried for switching parties, said that he would continue to support the GOP. He did not make it clear as to whether or not he would help raise money for Lazio, who is reported to only have around $700,000 left in campaign funding, according to the Wall Street Journal.
