Steve Landesberg, ‘Barney Miller’ Star, Dies

Steve Landesberg, who played Sgt. Arthur P. Dietrich in the television show “Barney Miller,” died on Dec. 20.

Steve Landesberg, who played the detective in ABC show Barney Miller, died of cancer at age 65 on Dec. 20.

Landesberg earned three Emmy nominations for his well-known role as the intelligent and quiet Detective Sgt. Arthur P. Dietrich in Barney Miller, which ran on ABC from 1975 to 1982, according to E! Online.

The actor and comedian also appeared in other TV series and movies including Forgetting Sarah Marshall, The Golden Girls, Everybody Hates Chris, That ‘70s Show, and Head Case.

Born on Nov. 23, 1945 in New York City, Landesberg started to work in local comedy clubs in the late 1960s. He had one daughter, Elizabeth, with his wife, Nancy Ross Landesberg, according to the New York Times.
