“Star Wars” every year: Disney said that there will be a new “Star Wars” movie coming out every year starting in 2015.

Entertainment Weekly reported that the company confirmed the decision on Wednesday and will start with “Star Wars: Episode VII” in the summer of 2015. The film will be directed by J.J. Abrams.

Walt Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn told the Los Angeles Times that “Episode VIII” and “Episode IX” will be released in 2017 and 2019, respectively. But, he added, “we expect to have pictures derived from that universe.”

Lawrence Kasdan, who wrote “The Empire Strikes Back” and wrote the script for “Return of the Jedi,” was tapped to be the screenwriter for the upcoming films.

Horn made the announcement during a presentation at the movie theater convention CinemaCon in Las Vegas.

Disney announced plans to reboot the space franchise after buying Lucasfilm Ltd. last year.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
