The Star Wars: Episode VII release date has been confirmed on Thursday to be December 18, 2015.
Lucasfilm said that the movie will not be pushed back into 2016.
“We’re very excited to share the official 2015 release date for Star Wars: Episode VII, where it will not only anchor the popular holiday filmgoing season but also ensure our extraordinary filmmaking team has the time needed to deliver a sensational picture,” Alan Horn, chairman of The Walt Disney Studios, said in a statement.
Pre-production for the movie “is in full swing,” says Lucasfilm.
Shooting is scheduled to begin in spring 2014.
The latest Star Wars movie will be directed by J.J. Abrams, who directed movies such as Super 8 and Star Trek.
Actors have not been officially confirmed but are rumored to include Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and other actors from the original three episodes.
