Star Wars Actor Dies: Man who played a general in the first Star Wars, and had some memorable moments in the film, perished at age 66.

Richard LeParmentier was a young commander, Admiral Motti, on the Death Star, who made the mistake of mocking Darth Vader for Vader’s “sad devotion to that ancient Jedi religion.”

“Don’t try to frighten us with your sorcerer’s ways, Lord Vader,” Motti says. “Your sad devotion to that ancient Jedi religion has not helped you conjure up the stolen data tapes, or given you enough clairvoyance to find the rebels’ hidden fortress...”

Vader promptly choked the commander, using the force.

“I find your lack of faith disturbing,” Vader tells the admiral, but ultimately allowed him to live.

“He absolutely loved traveling the world and meeting his friends and fellow Stars Wars fans, whose tributes have given us all the best lines in this message,” LeParmentier’s family said in a statement.

LeParmentier had a long career in acting, including appearing in—and writing scripts for—many British television series in the ‘70s and ’80s.

LeParmentier was born in Pittsburgh, PA, and moved to Britain in 1974. He was living in Bath, England when he died. It’s unclear what the cause of his death was at this time.

His family said that he was “a warm, genuine person with an unparalleled joie de vivre.”
