The St. Louis Rams are considered the favorites to relocate to Los Angles within the next one to two years.
The Rams, Oakland Raiders, and San Diego Chargers are all considered in the running.
NBC says that out of the three teams, “the team viewed by the NFL as most likely to make the move is the Rams.”
If the Rams do relocate, the new stadium would likely be built on the 60 acres that owner Stan Kroenke purchased last year at Hollywood Park.
The Chargers recently threatened to block any team from moving to Los Angeles, citing concerns about a revenue hit, but a league source told NBC that “those concerns likely would be resolved, possibly with the Chargers getting a larger slice of the relocation fee than other teams receive.”
The move to Los Angeles does not seem to be a done deal for the Rams, despite some reports to the contrary.
Sources indicated recently that Kroenke is actually in active discussions to keep the team in St. Louis.
“The silence from local negotiators does not mean they haven’t been working feverishly to put a deal together. According to these sources, that silence could be broken with the completion of next month’s midterm elections,” the report said.
“What local negotiators have been working on, and could be prepared to publicly discuss within the next month or so, is a proposal for an open-air stadium along the St. Louis riverfront between the new Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge and the Lumiere Place Casino and Hotels.”
The report admits that “no one is naïve enough to rule out that Kroenke could have his eyes on relocating to Los Angeles” but that “there are so many hurdles that still need to be removed to make sense of the idea of Kroenke moving the Rams.”
