The return to Newport Country Club for its 5th United States Golf Association (USGA) championship in staging this week’s 44th U.S. Senior Open is a much-anticipated event in a number of ways.

The Rhode Island club was on the ground floor when golf was organized in the United States serving as one of the five clubs that organized the USGA and then hosting the first U.S. Open and U.S. Amateur in 1895.
