Edge rusher Von Miller, a former Super Bowl MVP and 2-time champion, is 36 years old and set to become a free agent.

Despite his age, he had a strong 2025 season as a rotational piece on the edge for the Washington Commanders. In a March 2 interview on “The Rich Eisen Show,” Miller said he wants to return to either the Commanders or the Denver Broncos.

“I’m definitely not at the beginning [of my career], but they’re still falling for the same tricks, Rich. I can’t leave,” he said. “They’re still falling for this stuff, man ... I had nine sacks last year, and I only played 35, 37 percent [of the snaps]. They’re still falling for the same tricks I’ve been doing my whole career. I’m going to keep rolling the dice until they figure it out.”

Miller was drafted by the Broncos with the second overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft; he is one of just five active players from that class. In his first season with the team, he played in Dennis Allen’s 4–3 defense.

He finished the season with 11.5 sacks and 64 total tackles. When Allen left to become head coach of the Oakland Raiders, Miller started playing his natural position on the edge under new defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio. He had a career-high 18.5 sacks, but finished third in the league behind Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt (20.5) and San Francisco 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith (19.5).

Injuries derailed his 2013 campaign, but the Broncos appeared in Super Bowl XLVIII, losing to the Seattle Seahawks 43-8. He returned in 2014, posting 14 sacks and 59 tackles. He had just 11 sacks and 35 tackles in 2015, but went on a tear in the playoffs that year. He had 2.5 sacks in the AFC Championship Game against the New England Patriots. In Super Bowl 50 against the Carolina Panthers, he totaled 2.5 sacks—including 2 strip sacks of 2011 first overall pick Cam Newton—along with six tackles and a batted pass; his performance earned him Super Bowl MVP honors.

He posted double-digit sack totals in each of the next three seasons: 13.5 in 2016, 10 in 2017, and 14.5 in 2018. He had just 8 sacks in 2019. A freak lower leg injury cost him the entire 2020 season. In 2021, he racked up 4.5 sacks in 7 games for the Broncos before he was traded to the Los Angeles Rams. He put up another 5 sacks in Los Angeles and was part of the team that won Super Bowl LVI.

He spent the next three seasons with the Buffalo Bills, but injuries derailed both his 2022 and 2023 seasons. He put up 8 sacks in 11 games in 2022; he did not get a single sack in 2023. He put up 6 sacks in 2024. He put up 9 sacks with the Commanders in 2025.

Asked where he would like to go in 2025, Miller said he would like to stay where he is.

“I’m a loyal guy,” he said. “I would love to stay with the Washington Commanders. I fell in love with my teammates there. I love the way they run the organization. [General manager] Adam Peters is great. [Head] Coach [Dan] Quinn is great. I would love to be a Washington Commander.”

If he doesn’t stay in Washington, Miller wants to go back to Denver, saying he never got the chance to say goodbye to Broncos Country.

“I got traded whenever I was there,” he said. “I didn’t get that chance to have closure. I didn’t get to walk into the stadium and be like, ‘okay, this is my last game,’ or ‘I’mma do this with the fans.’ I didn’t get that closure. So, I would love to have closure with the Denver Broncos.”

If neither team wants his services, Miller said there would be a team that would pay for his pass-rush repertoire and experience.

“I'll just play it by ear,” he said. “This is my second time around doing it. I kind of know what to expect, just got to make the best out of whatever decision I get.”
