Olympic biathlon champion Laura Dahlmeier has died after being struck by rockfall while climbing in the Karakoram Mountains in Pakistan earlier this week. She was 31.

The accident occurred on Monday afternoon as Dahlmeier and her rope partner, Marina Eva, were descending from the summit of Laila Peak, a statement posted to the German athlete’s Instagram account on Wednesday confirmed.
