On May 2, Gregg Popovich officially stepped down as the head coach of the San Antonio Spurs with an NBA record of 1,422 wins. However, two months later, the NBA has amended Popovich’s record, removing games in which then-interim, and now full-time head coach, Mitch Johnson guided San Antonio in last season. As a result, those 77 games have been taken from Popovich’s record and given to Johnson, though Popovich remains the league’s all-time leader in wins.

Popovich retired with a record of 1,422-869 and a .621 win-loss percentage. Johnson posted a 32-45 record during Popovich’s absence after suffering a stroke, so now, Popovich has a career record of 1,390-824 and a .628 win-loss percentage. With Johnson as San Antonio’s new head coach going forward, it only made sense to credit those 77 games to him instead of Popovich.
