Entering Week 18 of last season, Mike Evans of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers had 915 receiving yards, meaning he needed 85 yards in the final game to reach the 1,000-yard threshold. While this milestone is a benchmark for any wideout, reaching 1,000 yards had even more meaning to Evans, seeing as he was already on a 10-year streak with at least 1,000 receiving yards.
As you may have remembered, Evans did, indeed, get the required yardage as he finished the game with 89 receiving yards, and thus, finished last season with 1,004 yards. That tied him with the incomparable Jerry Rice for the most consecutive 1,000-yard receiving seasons in NFL history with 11. That also meant that Evans had a chance to move into sole possession of first place with this record this season. However, battling major injuries for the first time in his career, which caused him to miss nine games, Evans won’t have a repeat of Week 18 of last year, as he knows 1,000 yards is not within reach.
