Father of NBA Star Jaylen Brown Arrested on Attempted Murder Charge in Las Vegas

Quenton Marselles Brown, 57, was booked after allegedly stabbing a youth football coach following a parking lot dispute.

The father of Boston Celtics All-Star Jaylen Brown was arrested Aug. 21 and charged with attempted murder stemming from a Las Vegas stabbing.

According to arrest records obtained by The Epoch Times, Quenton Marselles Brown, 57, was taken into custody and booked at the Clark County Detention Center.

The elder Brown was involved in a parking lot dispute one day prior, during which he allegedly stabbed 28-year-old youth football coach Cross Tupuola multiple times.

Bail was set at $300,000 ahead of Brown’s Aug. 26 court date, and if released, he will be required to wear an ankle monitor.

The incident started when Brown hit Tupuola’s vehicle with his own car door, causing an argument to break out, according to TMZ. He proceeded to pull out what appeared to be a knife and allegedly stabbed the victim repeatedly in the back and stomach.

Tupuola was taken to a local hospital to undergo surgery, and Brown was apprehended by authorities a short while later.

The Epoch Times reached out to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department for comment and requested police records, but did not hear back by the time of publication.

Speaking to the press, the suspect’s attorney Arnold Weinstock said the incident will be thoroughly investigated and proclaimed his client’s innocence.

Further, he said Tupuola had a gun during the dispute and hit Brown over the head with the weapon prior to the stabbing.

“I’ve known Mr. Brown for quite some time,” said Weinstock. “I do not believe that he initiated anything and is telling me everything that occurred was him trying to defend himself after he was struck.”

The elder Brown, 7 feet tall and 300 pounds, is a former professional boxer who in 2016 held the World Boxing Union heavyweight title and was also the Central America and Mexico heavyweight champion the year prior.

His son was selected third overall by the Boston Celtics during the 2016 NBA draft.

During his nine-season professional basketball career, the younger Brown made his mark playing shooting guard and small forward.

He helped the Celtics reach the NBA Finals twice, losing in 2022 and winning in 2024, when he was named finals MVP, averaging 20.8 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 5 assists during that series.

In 2023, the Celtics agreed to a five-year supermax contract extension valued at up to $304 million.
