NEW YORK—At the ripe old age of 10, SpongeBob Squarepants will live on forever as a wax figure. On Wednesday at 11 a.m., Madam Tussauds’ Wax Museum unveiled SpongeBob Squarepants as a new addition to their wax exhibit in celebration of the show’s 10th anniversary.

Appearing alongside the SpongeBob wax figure was Cyma Zarghami, president of Nickelodeon and MTVN Kids and Family Group, Tom Kenny, voice of SpongeBob Squarepants, Bill Fagerbakke, voice of Patrick Star, and Paul Tibbitt, executive producer of the animated series.

Fans gathered at the doors of Madam Tussauds to get a glimpse of the new addition to the wax museum as well as the voice actors. SpongeBob is the first animated character to receive a figure made entirely of wax by Madame Tussauds. Not only were the fans excited to see SpongeBob become a part of wax museum history, voice actor Tom Kenny was especially excited.

“To be immortalized in paraffin in the same room of Madam Tussauds’ that houses the Regis Philbin wax figure is an unparalleled achievement, ‘It’s terrific! It’s wonderful!’” said Kenny, imitating the voice of Regis Philbin.

Referencing the Cartoon home of SpongeBob, Kenny joked, “The funny thing is that at the Bikini Bottom wax museum right now SpongeBob’s unveiling a wax figure of me. It’s kind of a cross promotion that we’re doing with the bikini bottom wax museum.”

Although there was no Patrick the Starfish wax figure Bill Faggerbakke had only good things to say about the milestone, “I’m just so happy that the cartoon is getting recognition like this, it’s wonderful, its another feather in the cap of a great little cartoon.”

To celebrate the launch of the newest wax figure, kids age 12 and under will receive free admission for families who come dressed in yellow. This offer will last from July 15 till the end of July. Nickelodeon will also turn Times Square yellow and in keeping with the show, spread around positivity with activities with a SpongeBob theme, give aways, and prize packs.
