It is difficult for many things to be kept under wraps nowadays with the ever-present nature of social networking. Some topics like “what happened on yesterday’s ‘Breaking Bad’ or ‘Game of Thrones’ episode” or even “who scored the most runs in last night’s game?” can instantly become posts that you either wish you’d seen at the proper time or that you hadn’t updated your feed until finishing the episode.

Here comes the new app, Spoiler Shield, for preserving the suspense. As an iOS app, Spoiler Shield is simple and works by a single on/off button that blocks all updates about shows you’ve pre-selected in your social networks.

This is similar to the Silencer Chrome app, but the main difference is the preset choice of TV shows available in Spoiler Shield. It has more than 30 shows and makes use of algorithms to block the show’s name, as well as commonly used phrases and words from the shows in tweets and status updates, just in case someone mention details without using the show’s name. The sender’s details are still shown and you can double-click to divulge the censored content.

Many TV viewers record their favorite shows to watch them later. This increases their chance of coming across spoiler post updates.

When social media ruined the ending for the “Game of Thrones” episode “Red Wedding,” two entrepreneurs, Josh Solt and Matthew Loew, came up with the Spoiler Shield idea.

Other than TV shows, Spoiler Shield also works for NFL, Wrestling (WWE), and Major League Baseball (MLB). The Android version is still in works.
